PELVIC SURGERY AND SPINAL CORD INJURIES

10th February 2022

Spinal cord injuries may result in erectile dysfunction (ED) as it may damage the nerves that trigger erections. When these nerves no longer work, ED results. Bicycling for long periods of time can also reduce blood flow to the penis, resulting in ED.

Incidence of sexual dysfunction in pelvic surgery patients varies in literature with 5% incidence of dysfunction in patients without urethral injury and 42% with urethral injuries. Hence in pelvic fracture, erectile dysfunction may be due to neurogenic, vascular, corporal and psychogenic injury.

The Vacurect can then be used to enable the man to achieve an erection for intercourse as needed for partner satisfaction.
